Plant Medicine & Healing
Preparing for your first Plant Medicine experience can be a bit overwhelming. Here is some practical information to help ensure you stay safe, and get the most out of your visit to Swissx Island.
A: Plant Medicine is not merely a recreational drug. The entheogenic herbs and plants used in Plant Medicine are incredibly powerful. Partaking of a Plant Medicine ceremony is a serious, transformative, and often life-changing experience that results in a deep sense of healing, spiritual growth and personal development.
Plant Medicine is an ancient art that has been practiced for centuries by indigenous Amazonian tribes spanning Brazil and Peru. Proper, informed application of Plant Medicine often results in accelerated self-healing, and other positive, life-changing effects in the lives of participants.
Since each person has their own unique path, history, and perspective on life, it's hard to fully explain the effects of Plant Medicine.
Indigenous Amazonian healers call it ‘The Medicine,’ or ‘La Medicina,’ and say that it encourages healing on ALL levels, unique to ALL individuals. Hence, one experience cannot explain what another person's experience will be. So we encourage you to follow your intuition, and listen carefully as it guides you to the Medicine for a reason. Ideally, we recommend medication to help focus your mind, and enter the ceremony with an open mind, heart, and body, and a clear intention of what you personally feel you need to work on.
A: When it occurs, purging represents the processing and flow of negative energy out of the body. Purging may take place on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. For some, this may experience vomiting or defecation. Others may experience purging as laughing, shaking, yawning, crying, racing thoughts and hot or cold sweats.
No need to worry: Purging is a natural, healthy part of the process, as it's the Medicine’s way of cleansing the body of toxic, suppressed or stored energies or negative associations related to addictions (substance or behavioral), physical conditions, or past trauma. It is very important to let the purges OUT. Each guest has a bucket for vomiting, water to cleanse the mouth, and we'll provide for any other physical needs you may have. Do not hesitate to ask for help. Our experienced guides will be on hand at all times, to help with going to the bathroom and any other needs that may arise. No need to worry about making noises during your purges; they are a totally natural part of the experience and always present during ceremony.
That said, it's important not to interrupt other guests’ experiences by physical touching, unnecessary talking, etc. It's also important that purging take place, both during and after ceremony, and to simply allow the purging to happen. Holding back or keeping your feelings in are unhelpful to working with Plant Medicine.
A: Feeling fear or anxiety before your Retreat or during the ceremony is totally normal. Partaking of Plant Medicine for the first time can be a very foreign experience for most people, as your thoughts and feelings are processed, and energy moves throughout your body.
Our experienced shamanic guides and staff are always there to help guide you through the experience with loving care and emotional support. It may be helpful to use breathing, meditation, yoga, affirmations, writing in a journal, or other grounding techniques to help lessen fear and anxiety.

A: Our ceremonies usually last 3-7 hours - but no two retreats are the same, since we often adjust our process in real-time to the needs of each group's participants. Ideally, it's best to go into each ceremony without expectations, and just allow what comes to come.
Our experienced shamanic healers will be there to guide you and keep you safe throughout the entire process, until the effects have worn off and you're able to sleep.
